Board reviews final report from third-party audit of Milwaukee County Jail
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It was seven months ago that an audit of the Milwaukee County Jail highlighted some key concerns and recommendations to improve living conditions.
Tuesday, June 17, Creative Corrections, LLC issued its final report, touching on the progress made since October.
Some of the concerns include procedures for suicide watch, inmate mental health, staffing shortages, overcrowding, and a lack of oversight.
The recommendations have improved living conditions in some areas, but the report says there are still changes that could be made.
"While the cap shows real, measurable progress, it is also important to understand we are working towards a deeper, more lasting change as the new norms become routine," said Stephen Spaulding, CEO of Creative Corrections. "With continued support from this committee and county leadership, we believe that MCJ can fully realize this transformation."
Supervisors encourage families who have lost loved ones in the Milwaukee County Jail to speak up and hold the sheriff's department responsible.
